EAST LONDON BUSINESS PLACE AND NEWHAM COLLEGE LAUNCH BUILDING LEGACIES PROGRAMME
East London Business Place (ELBP) and Newham College of Further Education’s Centre for Innovation and Partnerships (CIPs) have officially launched their new business support programme, Building Legacies.
The programme officially launched at an event held at the London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC) on the 13th July, where more than 100 Small, Medium and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs) and partners were in attendance to hear what this programme will deliver over the next three years. Speakers included Di Gowland, Newham College’s Principal and Chief Executive who is also the Holder of the Queen’s Award for Enterprise Promotion; Paolo Nistri, Senior Regeneration Manager at the LLDC and Glen Addis, Director of ELBP. Guests also heard from the inspiring guest speaker Levi Roots, British-Jamaican reggae musician, television personality, celebrity chef and businessman who is most famous for his appearance on the BBC show Dragons’ Den and successful Reggae Reggae Sauce brand.
The programme, a partnership of private and public sector organisations, is a flagship local business growth and procurement support project part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
Julia Bollam, Head of CIPs said: “We are delighted to be delivering this new enterprise programme which will provide tailored solutions for London-based SMMEs seeking competitive business advantage. The purpose of this initiative is to deliver a sustained support programme tackling gaps in SMME growth, innovation, contract-readiness and knowledge of procurement and supply-chain requirements.”
Glen Addis, Director of ELBP said: “ELBP is excited to be delivering this free programme which follows hot on the heels of the previous joint ELBP and CIPs Fit for Legacy programme, which realised over £18m in contract wins for local SMMEs. For this new programme we will be focusing our efforts on quality, not quantity, with the programme looking at less SMMEs, but with more time for tailored coaching and mentoring, aiming to reach 400 SMMEs over the 3 year period until 2019. Building Legacies will be delivered by dedicated Business Growth Managers based at bespoke premises in the Stratford Centre’s Business Lab and at Canary Wharf, whilst providing operational outreach across London.”
Addis continues; “We are seeking applications from London SMMEs predominantly – but not exclusively – in the construction, digital/creative and care sectors, who wish to take advantage of the free business coaching and mentoring support on offer. Building Legacies will enable businesses to grow, become more innovative and ‘fitter-to- supply’, providing tailored solutions through workshops, briefings, masterclasses, toolkits, networking, meet the buyer and round table events and 1-2-1 coaching and mentoring”.
